The CHICcap: Mattiepalooza + Style Bloggers of Color Conference Day 3

The final day of Mattiepalooza was just what I needed to finish off a great weekend of events. The Style Bloggers of Color awards luncheon was a day to celebrate the many achievements of bloggers that worked hard to make their blogs successful.

Claire of the uber successful Fashion Bomb Daily was the keynote speaker and she kept saying how she hates public speaking. I couldn’t tell because I think she did an amazing job. Her story is quite inspirational because a lot of us get discouraged when things don’t seem to be moving at a pace we’d like. It took Claire MANY years to get to where she is now and the one thing that got her there was PASSION and LOVE for her business. I was inspired by her story and it gave me the extra boost I needed to work harder toward my goals in life.

Congratulations to all of the bloggers that won awards they were well deserved!  You all are an inspiration to me.

Introducing… “How’d You Put That Together?”

Happy Monday everyone! I hope that your weekends were all that you’d hope they would be. So, tomorrow marks the first of many new things to come for OCFH. I have spent a lot of time brainstorming different ways to improve Oh CHIC Fancy Huh so that all of my Chic Fancy readers can have a more enjoyable and informational experience on your visits.

And I Love It!: Protect Your Pumps

Picture this….

It’s Fashion Week in New York and you’re sitting on your couch taking a breather from the hectic day. The phone rings and to your surprise it’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez personally inviting you to the upcoming Proenza Schouler show with front row seating, you know, the whole nine. You look in your closet pick out the perfect outfit and finish with your favorite pair of pumps. Naturally, you have to look your best, just in case the photographers snap a shot of you sitting in your front row seat at the Proenza Schouler show. You glide in with confidence, sit in your seat, cross your legs and photographers begin to snap away. Off they go, the show starts, all is well, the collection is EVERYTHANG and you meet Jack and Lazaro later for drinks at a gorgeous roof top lounge. Perfect day!

The sunrises and you check the front door for the New York Post delivery and you flip through to see some of the street style photos. The page turns and at the top right corner you see a picture of yourself with the title, “The Adventures of Scratched & Scuffed” and a close up picture of the soles of your designer pumps!

Blasphemy!

Don’t you hate when your brand new pair of pumps start to show their age. Whether they are a pair of Christian Louboutins, Jessica Simpsons or Qupids, the soles of our shoes get no respect. After a couple of wears they start to get scratched, scuffed and dirty.

Well everyone, Kathryn, a fellow shoe lover, has come to save the day with Protect Your Pumps!

How it works:

Protect Your Pumps is a protective transparent adhesive that can be placed on the soles of your shoes to provide a barrier between the soles of your shoes and the ground. The adhesive is temporary and must be replaced after a couple of nights out on the town. Replacement will vary per person, based on the length of time you wear your pumps and the type of surface you walk on.

The left shoe was worn with Protect Your Pumps and the right shoe was not.

Currently Protect Your Pumps should only be used on leather soles as the adhesive may peel away color from painted soles, such as the soles of Christian Louboutins. But do not fret, the company is developing a new adhesive that will protect painted soles, which will be available very soon!

Protect Your Pumps is great for the person that faints at the sight of dirty soles and also for the person that sees their shoes as an investment and will one day want to sell their old pumps to make room for the new ones.

Designer shoes or non-designer shoes, this product is MAJOR! We are in the midst of the change in seasons and I’m sure that we will all be purchasing new shoes to rock with our spring looks. Now is the perfect time to start taking care of our beloved shoes with Protect Your Pumps.

Convinced?! It’s time to give them a try. Head over Protect Your Pumps and use the promo code FANCY for 15% off of your purchase.

Peace Love Fashion,

Dominique

And I Love It!: My Top 5 Places to Shop

People always ask me where I get some of the pieces I wear, so here is a quick post of my top 5 places to shop:

5.

Looking for a specific trend? Asos is usually the place to find it. This UK based online clothing company has a wide variety of clothing to choose from and they never disappoint.  I usually hit up Asos for special occasions to find a unique piece.

4.

I have found many gems on Ebay at reasonable prices. I know you guys know all about Ebay so I won’t talk too much about them, but this is where I go to find quality pieces for a good price.

3.

I worked for Dillards for almost 2 1/2 years and in that time I grew fond of them. They don’t necessarily have the best shopping but sometimes you can find some good stuff. I only shop here when they have an additional off sale to rack up on basics and hidden finds.

2.

All my true fashionistas can understand this choice! If you have the patience,  time and inspiration goodwill can be your best friend. The good thing about them is that you find unique pieces that most likely no one will have at a DIRT cheap price! In a world where H&M and Forever 21 continues to make heads hang low in shame of running into someone with the exact same outfit on, a bit of uniqueness is needed. Stay tuned for my thrifting shopping guide, I’ll show you how it’s done!

1.

Yes, Ross is hands down my top favorite place to shop! It is an official part of my weekly schedule. Wake up, shower, work, ROSS, home! LOL I can go there and get an entire outfit, pants, shirt, shoes, purse and spend close to nothing! I go to Ross just for the thrill and usually end up getting something for my everyday wear.

I love these stores dearly, but I’m always open to fun new places to spend my coins! What are your favorite spots to shop?

Why am I so random?!

When it comes to clothes and inspiration I am so very random. I think of something I like or see something I like and that becomes my focus for that moment smh. I want to be able to show the outfits I wear but I’m kinda in this blog alone and it is so hard trying to take pictures of myself. Today I had the bright idea to get a dress form so I can display my pieces that way! So I started researching prices online and I found some fairly reasonable prices but the shipping was outrageous. As I researched some more I discovered that there is a way that I can make my own! So at the moment I am on a mission to make myself my own personal body form. I will try and take detailed pictures of the process and items I will be using so if you want to make one of your own you can follow my guide. I hope it comes out the way I need it to! I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
